The Whitstable Oyster Festival Association (WOFA) is inviting local people to get more involved in the Festival this year. The group is holding an open evening at the Horsebridge Arts Centre and will be outlining the opportunities for people to volunteer, perform, or become members of the organisation.
WOFA is made up of Whitstable residents who work closely with the Festival Co-ordinator to make sure the Festival is a success each year, taking on a variety of tasks up to and during the Festival itself.
Brenda Welch, WOFA Chair, said “We are looking for people from all backgrounds and all talents. If people want to join the Association and be involved throughout the year that’s great, but we also need people who might only be able to spare a few hours a month, or help out during the festival itself.”
The open evening is an informal, hour-long event in Chives Cafe. Brenda Welch of WOFA and the Festival Co-ordinator, Mair Stratton will give a very short presentation and then answer any questions people may have. Other WOFA members will be on hand to talk to people and describe their own experiences of helping to present the annual festival.
“We know that a lot of people are interested in being part of the Festival but don’t know how to go about it or think they are not qualified,” said Brenda, “so we are saying come along and we’ll tell you everything you want to know.”
The Whitstable Oyster Festival Association open evening takes place between 8.00pm and 9.00pm on Tuesday 24th February at Chives Cafe in the Horsebridge Arts and Community Centre.
