SplashPals are a local group of Newfoundland dogs and their owners .

Newfoundland dogs originated, as you would expect, in Newfoundland. The result of breeding between indigenous Indian dogs and dogs brought across from Europe by explorers in the 15th century the breed took 200 years to settle to what we see today, a large dog with a thick coat and webbed paws.

It’s coat and paws, along with its temperament and its ability to be trained, made the Newfoundland the perfect working dog for dealing with a water environment. Many tales have been told of their life-saving exploits over the years.

who will entertain you today with a demonstration of life-saving at sea. You will also get a chance to speak to their handlers who will be happy to answer any questions about these gentle giants of the canine world.

Splahpals will also take part in the Oyster Parade, pulling small carts as their ancestors would have done centuries before.
