Tug of War is for cissies - this is a real competition. Dirty, dank and dangerous. Eight teams take the Mud Tug challenge. For team registrations call Michelle Moubarak on 01227 862 267.

It has been said that this event is based on the days when the Oyster men used to drag their boats over the mud and up the beach. We don’t believe a word of it! It’s far more likely to have been dreamed up after a few glasses of ale - a few glasses too many that is.
Whatever the origin of the Mud Tug, it is a sight to behold …. up to their ankles in thick mud the teams battle it out against each other and occassionally the incoming tide too. The air is thick with the scent of testosterone and anticipation as they eventually emerge to be hosed down by local firemen.
A quirky and fun spectacle best enjoyed whilst sitting on the promenade or beach.
Vestas, who maintain the off-shore wind turbines visible from the beach, are the current Mud Tug champions and are reluctant to let it go. Will this be the year they lose?
